Mrs. Katie "Renee" Peace Johnston Katie “Renee” Peace Johnston, age 61, passed away Friday, April 28, 2023 at her residence.

Renee was born on March 9, 1962 in Brewton, Alabama, to R.B. Peace and Sarah Louise Batts Peace. She was married to James “Rocky” Dillard Johnston, Jr. for thirty-five years. Renee was a resident of the Morgan City area. She was a faithful member of Highland Baptist Church where she served as the church pianist and taught children’s Sunday School for over 20 years. After teaching in private elementary schools, Katie was employed by the Morgan County Commission on Aging as a Senior Center director. She thoroughly enjoyed her work at various senior centers and loved her involvement with the patrons who became an extended family. Renee was also a big fan of Blue-grass music and many weekends could be found at a singing or a festival somewhere; and, of course, there was Alabama football. Renee loved everyone she met and had made many, many friends, not only in the surrounding communities, but in many other states as well.

Renee is survived by her loving husband, James “Rocky” Johnston, Jr. and her two aunts, Hazel Grubbs and Alma Batts.

Renee is preceded in death by parents, R. B. and Sarah Batts Peace and her brother, George Peace.
Visitation is planned at the Brindlee Mountain Chapel Funeral Home in Lacey’s Spring, Alabama on Thursday, May 4, 2023 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. with the service following at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery in Morgan County. The service will be officiated by Brother Craye Hall and Brother Freddie Childs.
