KathyKathy Waddell Fincher was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 after a 4 ½ year battle with breast cancer. Kathy was born August 31, 1956 in Decatur, Alabama, daughter of Victor and Nadine (Bentley) Waddell. Kathy was a resident of Decatur, Alabama all her life. She attended elementary/middle school at Priceville, high school at Brewer where she was a cheerleader, and college at Calhoun and Athens state. Kathy was baptized as a child but was baptized as an adult with her husband in the Elk River.
Kathy had a zest for living and enjoyed life to the fullest. She had a strong love of family and an ardent love of the beach that began as a child. Kathy was always ready to “get her feet in the sand”. She and her husband were frequent visitors to Panama City or Gulf Shores enjoying life under the sun. It was rare for them to miss Shrimp Fest or an opportunity to spend a week relaxing at the beach. Her love of water extended to activities on the Tennessee River which included having either a ski boat and/or house boat all her adult life. Life at the houseboat located at Riverwalk Marina included a wide circle of friends that enjoyed the “harbor” life together. Kathy also had a passion for travel. She was blessed in having had the opportunity to travel to a number of states in the US, as well as international travel including destinations such as London, Scotland, Paris, multiple cities in Italy, and the Caribbean. Kathy’s favorite time of the year was Christmas and a comment was once made after she had decorated her house for the holidays that “Christmas has exploded at Kathy’s house”. It was also said of Kathy that she had a “passion for fashion”.
Kathy was diagnosed stage 4 breast cancer in 2011. She faced the challenge with a positive attitude and a determination to defeat it. She battled bravely right up until the end.
Kathy is survived by her husband of 32 years, Larry Wayne (Snook) Fincher; 2 sisters, Kay (Waddell) Russ and husband Don of Decatur, AL and Vickie (Waddell) Edwards-Peto of Yorba Linda, CA; 1 brother Jerry Waddell and wife Shirley of Priceville, AL; 4 nephews, Steven and Larry Waddell, Cory Derrick, and Brant Peto; 4 nieces, Shasta Lanford, Dorinda (Derrick) Steele, Danya (Derrick) Sanders and Lisa Patterson; and 15 great nephews and nieces.
Services will be at Peck’s Funeral Home with visitation Friday, November 13, from 6:00-8:00pm and the funeral service Saturday November 14 at 1:00pm, which will be officiated by Robbie Stofel and John Key. Pallbearers will be Brant Peto, Steven Waddell, Larry Waddell, Steve Butler, Tim Patterson, and Ricky Brown.
