Memorial service for Kathryn Elizabeth “Kathy” Kilpatrick Nation, age 62, of Decatur, will be Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Pat Patterson officiating. There will be no visitation prior to the service which will begin at 7:00 p.m.
Kathy, who passed away on Monday, May 13, 2019, at the Parkway Campus of Decatur Morgan Hospital, was born March 11, 1957, in Birmingham, to Blaine and Lib Kilpatrick of Haleyville. She was preceded in death by her stepson, Warren Jackson Nation, and her parents.
She was raised on her parents’ dairy farm, and became a lover of all animals. She attended Haleyville High School and was a member of the marching band. Kathy moved to Decatur in 1979, where she was initially employed by First State Bank, and later by Patrick Industries. Her career then took her to Classic Panel Design in Hartselle, where she worked for about 20 years. Her final position was purchasing agent at Southern Energy in Addison, from which she took early medical retirement.
In March of 1995, she married A. J. “Jack” Nation. Kathy was an expert bird hunter. Her dad bought her a Browning 20 ga., over/under double barrel shotgun. She went quail hunting with her dad, and dove hunting with Jack. She was also an avid fan of her beloved Alabama Football — Roll Tide! Kathy’s nickname was “Tuffee” because she beat the odds of cancer for over seven years.
She is survived by her loving husband, A. J. “Jack” Nation of Decatur; and many uncles, aunts, cousins, and a host of friends. She was loved by all.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to the charity of your choice or to your church.
