Kathryn Chapman Dunn (Kappie) passed away March 24, 2023. Kappie was born in Birmingham, AL on October 25, 1941. She was a graduate of Mountain Brook Elementary School, Shades Valley High School and Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in Lynchburg, VA. She was the first president of Muses Dance Club. Kappie and her husband Evans Dunn, Jr. moved to Decatur, AL in 1973. She was an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church serving as President of the Episcopal Church Women and head of the Altar Guild several years while serving on the Altar Guild 1973- 2016. Kappie was a member of the Junior League of Birmingham and Morgan County Junior League serving in many capacities. She worked as a bailiff for the State of Alabama, District Court for 16 years for Judge David Bibb. In August 2016, Kappie and Evans returned to Birmingham and St. Mary’s-on-the-Highlands Episcopal Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Jerome Cochran Chapman (Kathryn Gilbert) of Birmingham, AL, and her brother and sister-in-law Jerome Cochran Chapman, Jr. and Gayle Whitney Chapman.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years Evans Dunn, Jr. She is also survived by her daughter Kathryn Dunn Lott and her husband Tony Ervin Lott; her son Evans Johnson Dunn; six grandchildren, Kathleen Merrell Dunn, Alexandra Glenn Dunn, Anne-Marie Harris Dunn, Kathryn Anne Lott, William Anthony Lott, and Elizabeth Chapman Lott; sister-in-law Joanne Dunn Blyde; her nephews Jerome Cochran Chapman, III and his wife Danna, Warren Whitney Chapman and his wife Rita, and her niece Lynne Ellen Chapman; great nephews Jerome Cochran Chapman, IV and Robert Joseph Chapman and many cousins.
Services will be at St. Mary’s-on–the-Highlands Episcopal Church in Birmingham on Saturday, April 1, 2023, with Visitation at 10:00 and a Celebration of Life at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
