Katherine “Kate” Marie Winkler, 75, died peacefully at her brother’s home on October 7, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Kate was born on August 30, 1949 in Piqua, OH to Howard and Mildred Winkler. She graduated from Piqua High School in 1967. Church was very important to her. She gave her life to Christ in September of 1959. She was a faithful member of Huntsville Christian Church for over 35 years until she moved in with her brother.
Kate is survived by her daughter, Jackie (John) Reside, 6 grandchildren, Joshua, Abby, Zayne, Chayse, Kara, and Gabriel, brother James (Diane) Winkler, step-siblings, Tammy (Dan) Schrimsher and Debbie McAnally, sister-in-law, Melinda Stamper, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mildred and Howard Winkler, step mother, Ruby Winkler, brother, Joseph (Robin) Winkler, step-siblings, Gary Stamper, Vicki Johnson, and Teresa Stamper, and brother-in-law, Jake McAnally.
After retiring, Kate loved volunteering to help others. She loved to quilt, crochet, and go fishing. She was rarely seen without a skein of yarn in her hands, donating thousands of hats, scarves, and blankets to help those in need.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Rainsville Christian Church (3319 Main St E, Fort Payne, AL 35968) on Saturday, October 12. Visitation will be from 10am-12pm with a service at 12pm.
