Katherine Elizabeth Benson passed away peacefully on June 15th, 2024. We will honor her life on Friday, June 21st at Hampton Cove Funeral Home in Owens Cross Roads, Alabama with the celebration of life beginning at 2pm.
The youngest of three children, Katherine was born on February 20th, 1931, to William Edward Hooper and Lucille Herron Hooper of Robbinsville, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband, Narsh Dewayne Benson. They married on August 13th, 1962, in Knoxville, TN. Also, preceding her in death were her parents, brother- Dennis, and brother- Ray.
Katherine leaves behind her three children and their spouses: Narsh Dewayne Benson II (Heidi), Amy Elizabeth Suarez (Arnie), and Sarah Benson Heritage. Her grandchildren include Jeremy Benson (Jessica), Jessica Colón (Steven), Michael Suarez, Preston Heritage, and Greer Heritage. Katherine’s great-grandchildren include Maddox Benson, Mara Benson, Steven Colón, and Noelle Colón. She also has many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends that she leaves behind.
As a child and adult, Katherine enjoyed learning and never missed a day of school. Katherine was a registered dietitian who received her master’s from the University of Tennessee. Katherine, as a military spouse, would work wherever the next assignment took her and her husband.
The legacy she left with all who knew her included the love she had for our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ. Katherine had a desire to see everyone she knew decide to follow Christ. Her friends and family had a deep appreciation for her warm meals and long list of specialty recipes. From the outside, Katherine appeared to live a simple life.
The family would like to thank her caregivers during the final months of her life at Whitesburg Gardens. You were a blessing to our entire family. Thank you to Compassus and Huntsville Hospital Hospice for your commitment to patient care.
To all who celebrate the life of Katherine Benson, we appreciate your kindness, hospitality, and most of all prayers. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider donating to Ascension Lutheran Church at the following address:
