Katherine Alice Gargis Fretwell – Obituary

Funeral service for Katherine Alice Gargis Fretwell, age 90, of Decatur, will be Thursday, May 29, 2014, 2:00 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Doug Ripley and Rev. Benny Sivley officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to service. Interment will be in Moulton Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Fretwell, who departed this life at Decatur Morgan Hospital, on Saturday, May 24, 2014, was born September 17, 1923, in Pascagoula, MS, to Benjamin Harris Gargis and Tiny Ryan Gargis. She worked over 30 years at Prestolite, and sold Avon products for 30 years. She was a member of Moulton Heights Baptist Church and Decatur Baptist Church for more than 60 years, where she taught girls’ Sunday School for over 30 years. Her husband, Lincoln C. Fretwell, preceded her in death.

She is survived by two sons, Lincoln Darwin Fretwell of Cape Coral, FL, and Barry Crawford Fretwell of Forth Worth, TX; one grandson, Benjamin Thomas Fretwell of Cape Coral, FL; three granddaughters, Darbi Lynn Fretwell of Richmond, VA, Christina Danielle Scott of Cape Coral, FL, and Chasity Ann Fretwell of Athens; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Benjamin Fretwell, Bobby McKeehan, Billy Price, Don Smith, Dwight Moss, and Richard Hankla.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to Gideons International, P. O. Box 5111, Decatur, AL 35602.
