Katha McWhorter Huffstutler Katha Vanessa McWhorter Huffstutler passed away Saturday, November 9, 2024, following a brief illness. Katha was born in Arab, Alabama to Artis McWhorter and Ivalea Holaway McWhorter on Christmas Eve 1967. Her arrival was a gift to the whole family. She earned the nickname “Katha Bug” for being small and cute. She will be remembered for her kindness, patience, and compassion, which was evident to everyone she encountered.

Katha graduated from Arab High School and Snead State Community College. She was a longtime conscientious and valued employee of Cracker Barrel and Lowe’s. Katha was preceded in death in 2017 by her beloved husband of 25 years, John Michael Huffstutler.

She is survived by her cherished and devoted companion of 6 years, Doug Johnson, her later-in-life sweetheart with whom she shared many adventures. She is also survived by sister and brother-in law Sherry and Richard Hornbuckle; brother and sister-in-law Don and Kathy McWhorter; special cousin and his wife Phillip and Cathy Holaway; sister-in law Deborah Huffstutler Powell; and brother-in-law Eric Huffstutler. Katha was blessed with a flock of nieces and nephews, some of whom called her “Aunt Bug.” She is also survived by her dear friend Kita Pettus. Katha loved her many friends and families, doting on the “babies”, from the 6 footers to the tiny ones. She also loved her work families and many friends at Cracker Barrel and Lowe’s.

Graveside service will be at Brookwood Cemetery in Arab on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. directed by Gober Funeral Chapel. Eulogy will be delivered by Ryan McWhorter, with music by Stewart McWhorter. Family will greet friends at Rocky Mount Primitive Baptist Church fellowship hall after the service. A memorial service in the Moody/Leeds area will be held at a later date.

Pallbearers will be Adam Hornbuckle, Stewart McWhorter, Ryan McWhorter, Eric Huffstutler, Chris Huffstutler, and Jason Pettus.

Flowers or memorial donations to the Muscular Dystrophy Association are welcome.
