Karla Bell Maneval, preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Karl and Letty Maneval, died on
January 30, 2024, in Huntsville, Alabama, at age 79.
Graveside service to be held on Friday February 2, 2024 at 1:00PM at Winston Memorial Cemetery in Haleyville, AL.
She is survived by her sister, Jenny Batchelor, two nephews, Jack Batchelor Jr. (Teresa) and Karl Batchelor (Sarah), niece Jeanette Baumgartner (Drew), four great-nephews, Jack Batchelor III, Josh Batchelor, Jared Batchelor and Max Baumgartner, and two great nieces Emma Johnson and Jenny Baumgartner.
Along with her sister and many nieces and nephews, Karla leaves behind thousands of students that
she lovingly taught at Johnson High School during her 40 years there.
Karla was born on October 23, 1945, in Leeds, Alabama, but considered Haleyville her home.
She attended Birmingham Southern College for her undergraduate degree in education and the
University of Alabama for her master’s degree in English literature. She loved reading, going to
the movies, and attending Broadway Theater League productions.
Karla was a loving, kind, and fiercely independent woman. We will miss her every day.
