Karen Steen-Smith, 87, passed away peacefully at home on February 4, 2024. She was born in San Diego, California to Dr. John and Noreen Steen. She graduated form Grossmont High School and University of Southern California, later she spent many years on the coast in Bandon, Oregon and then moved to Florence, Alabama to enjoy life with her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, William S. Smith; sister, Sharmon Davis, and her parents.

She is survived by her sons, Bradley DeGroote (Genna) and Gregory DeGroote; nieces, Brooke Davis and Marna Davis; and grandchildren, Anna DeGroote, Parker DeGroote and Amy DeGroote.

Her relationship with Christ gave her much comfort during her final years. Even in the end stages of a long battle with Alzheimer’s, she had a smile and a kind word for everyone. Her content spirit and positive outlook made her a joy to be around each and every day.
