Karen “Kaye” Smith, 64, of Cherokee entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, February 10, 2016. She left this world surrounded by the ones she laughed with, lived for, and loved. She entered into the gates of glory to find her beloved husband, Pistol, waiting on a bench for her, just as he promised.

Kaye’s spirit is carried on by her sons and granddaughters. They were her passion and delight and all who knew her knew her granddaughters were her whole world. We are blessed to learn many valuable lessons from her and and honored to have her as our Mom, Mammy, and Mimi. Kaye was the owner of Sparky’s Drive Inn where she enjoyed meeting new faces and serving a Tuscumbia tradition for more than 21 years.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Byron “Pistol” Smith; parents, Houston Hooper and Willie Walker, sisters, Lois Inman and Maude Cook and brother, Jimmy Viall.

She is survived by her sons, Todd and wife Kim, John and wife Jenna, and Matt and wife Paula; granddaughters, Jordan, Bayly and Emma; mother-in-law, Betty Smith; brothers, Austin Viall, Jr. and Bobby Joe Viall; sisters, Mae Whitmore and Kathy Woods and a host of other family.

Family will receive friends Saturday, February 13, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home of Cherokee. A memorial service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Bro. Greg Beasley officiating.

The family wishes to thank all of those who have cared for her and prayed for us during her last illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in her honor.
