Karen Brett Logan Mozian Profile PhotoIt is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Karen Brett Logan Mozian, of Madison, Alabama on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at the age of 73 years leaving a void her family cannot fill.

Karen was born in Mount Vernon, New York in 1950 to Lorraine Collette Faust Logan and Charles Conway Logan Jr. As a child her go-to toy was a doll she named Genevieve which frankly seemed like a screwy name even in the 1950’s. Where she got the name from is a fact lost to history. She was also always up for a solid game of “zoo” which involved sticking her younger brother under his crib and dropping the side down so he couldn’t get out.

Her first job was with the St Regis Paper Company in New York City. The return commute home at night was always good for a gin and tonic in the bar car. She loved working in the city and going to Lincoln Center to see the Nutcracker Ballet at Christmas.

Marrying Steven Arthur Mozian in 1973 she began the daunting task of life as a military spouse with her husband in the Army for 21 of their 51 years together. Karen and Steve went on to have 2 children, Melissa and Steven.

Karen was the ideal military wife. Karen was strong in ways most people didn’t appreciate, frail physically from lifelong back troubles and repeated surgeries but mentally and emotionally strong enduring the trials and tribulations of having to create a new home when duty stations changed, handling 2 kids alone for long periods of time and managing the healthcare of her son, Steven, who was born with a chronic and ultimately fatal disease.

She had panache for turtlenecks, with a love of Bobby Rydell and the movies Miracle on 34th Street & Yankee Doodle Dandy (making her family watch with her at least once a year.) An excellent cook, Karen was often remembered for her cakes, brownies, and Christmas Chocolate Fudge; but her family knew best to stay away from any attempts at biscuits (also referred to as “Mom’s hockey pucks”).

Karen spent her time trying to keep track of what country her travel lust daughter Melissa was in every day, reading, and gardening taking pride in having beautiful landscaping and potted plant collections.

In recent years when chronic pain limited her mobility and prevented her from gardening, she still flexed her green thumb with indoor gardening, becoming almost obsessed with succulents.

She was passionate about 4 things in life…her family, Coffee, and Hagen Daz Coffee ice cream; there has always been a great debate on the order of priority and whether or not her family came before or after the Coffee and Coffee ice cream.

The 4th thing Karen was passionate about is the Steven G. Mozian Cystic Fibrosis Patient Care Fund established in 2013 after the passing of her son Steven at the age of 33 to Cystic Fibrosis. This fund provides financial assistance to cystic fibrosis patients who are in the position that her son Steven was at the end of his life—having to decide between paying for treatment or paying for basic needs.

Karen was preceded in death by her father Charles Conway Logan Jr., stepfather Robert McMeekin, mother Lorraine Collette Faust Logan, son Steven Gerard Mozian, and long time family friends Frank Stauch and Toby Stauch.

She is survived by her husband Steven Arthur Mozian, daughter Melissa Anne Mozian, sister Lorraine Conway Logan and husband Rocky Powell, sister Leslie Anne Logan Taylor, brother Charles Conway Logan III and wife Leanne, 12 nieces/nephews including their spouses that she loved dearly, 8 great-nieces/nephews, and best friend Pamela Stauch…all who will never forget the love she brought to their lives.

A remembrance of life visitation will be held at Legacy Chapel Funeral Home and Crematory, 16 Hughes Road, Madison, AL 35758 on Saturday, August 10, 2024, from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the UNC Steven G. Mozian Cystic Fibrosis Patient Care Fund link: LINK Steven G. Mozian CF Patient Care Fund Scroll to Gift Information Section. https://give.unc.edu/donate?f=346029&p=medf&s=medfot18qavu39
