Justin Joe Carlisle, 39, died unexpectedly at his home on June 30, 2023. Justin was born in Tupelo on November 4,1983. He was the youngest son of Vicki Greenslade Jarrett and David Carlisle, Sr., both of Tupelo. J-Bird, as he was affectionately called by his parents, was a man of simple living. He was most happy in the company of his dog, Chloe, on the piece of land where they lived together.

As a child, Justin charmed others with his sense of humor and personality. When a teen, Justin achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest achievement in the Boy Scouts of America. Justin showed unsurpassed talent on the soccer field at an early age. His skill in the sport grew, playing with travel, select soccer teams, and on Tupelo High School’s soccer team when they won the 5A state championship. Justin was recruited to play soccer at the college level and accepted a scholarship to play the game for Belhaven University.

During his twenties, Justin developed an interest and forte in the culinary arts, cooking in fine establishments. Most recently, Justin found a career in the home remodeling business, working with longtime friend Clayton Meriweather. Justin was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church, still attending the early service with his dad, as his family did, during his formative years.

Justin had a style all his own. He sported a few tattoos, grew his beard long, tied his curly hair in a man-bun, and wore Carhartts, even when he was not working, because he just liked the feel of them.

A celebration of life service will be held for Justin at 2 PM on Monday, July 3, 2023 in the Sadie M. Holland Memorial Chapel at Holland Funeral Directors. Visitation will be from 12 PM to service time. Private burial will follow in Tupelo Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Matt Maynard, Trey Wilemon, Kirby Faucette, Clayton Meriweather, Patrick Bunnell, Matthew Miller, Clarke Bozeman, and Andrew White.

Justin is preceded in death by his grandparents Cal and Jo Bunnell, grandfathers Joe Carlisle and Robert Greenslade, uncle Ronnie Bunnell, and his former wife Laura Galloway Carlisle.

Justin is survived by his parents, Vicki (Mark) Jarrett and David (Frieda) of Tupelo; brothers David (Shannon) and their children Caroline, Anderson, and Graham of Saltillo; and Matthew (Christina) and their children Liam, Adele, Cal, and Theo of New Orleans, LA. Justin is also survived by his grandmother June Carlisle, aunt Missy (Joe) Washburne, cousins Annalise and Carlisle, uncle Joey Carlisle (Natalie) and daughter Kelsie Hunter (James Riley), aunt Cathy Carter, uncle Doug Greenslade (Sallye) and cousin Meg, aunt Jane Bunnell and cousin Patrick. Step-siblings are Courtney Wilemon (Trey), John Mark Jarrett (Ashley), Kristen Miller (Matthew), Susan Ashley Bozeman (Clarke), and Andrew White, and their families.

Memorials may be made to the Tupelo Humane Society, P.O. Box 2143 Tupelo, MS 38803.
