June Marie Turner Shapiro, 98, passed away November 22, 2024 after a brief illness.

June was a lifelong resident of Madison County, born in the former town of Taylorsville near Hobbs Island Road. She grew up in Farley and attended Farley School, and graduated from New Hope High School as Salutatorian in 1944. She graduated during the ending years of World War 2, and although she was offered a scholarship to continue her education, felt that she was needed in the work force, and took a job with Gulf Chemical Warfare Depot on Redstone Arsenal. After the war, she went to Oak Ridge, TN to work for the Atomic Energy Department, and then back to Huntsville to work for Rohm and Haas and then the Civil Service. She married Norman Shapiro in 1955.

June was an avid bridge player for years, and enjoyed spending time with her many friends and family. She and Norman spent a lot of time traveling, and took trips to many countries in Europe as well as an adventurous trip to China. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, and throughout the years could always be found attending sports, dance, and music events that they participated in.

June is survived by her son, Alan Paul Shapiro (Doris) of Huntsville; grandchildren Ashley Shapiro of Vancouver, Canada, Matthew Shapiro of Middleton, Wisconsin, and Miranda Shapiro Leonard (John Roberts) of Tuscaloosa. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth Watson Turner and Oliver Harvey “Jack” Turner; her step-father, Arthur Turner; sisters, Martha Turner Gustafson and Linda Turner Each; brother, Charles Turner; and step-brother, Raymond Turner.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, November 26th at 3:00 p.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Facial Pain Association (https://www.facepain.org/) or a charity of your choice.
