June C. Mitchell June Claire Mitchell passed away at her home at the age of 80. She was born January 5, 1943 in Water Valley, the daughter of Carl Franklin Davidson and Minnie Margaret Pipkins Davidson. After her graduation from Oakland High School, she then attended Northwest Mississippi Junior College, where she received her Certificate in Secretarial Science in 1962. June worked for the state of Mississippi as the Regional Secretary for the Department of Rehabilitation. After her retirement, she then worked for Itawamba Community College. June was married to John Aubrey Mitchell who passed away in 1996 after 34 years of marriage. June enjoyed spending time with her family. She thoroughly enjoyed family gatherings where she was the light at every holiday/special event. She was an avid gardener and inherited a green thumb from her mother.

Survivors include, one son John Jeffrey Mitchell his spouse Paula Kay Mitchell of Land O’Lakes, Florida; one daughter Jennifer Claire Barton her spouse William Christopher Barton of Helena, Alabama; twelve grandchildren Nikki Baker, Allie Watkins, Cody Drury , Austin Drury, Angel Mitchell, John David Mitchell, Taylor Garrett, Tyler Garrett, Audrey Garrett, Cade Barton, Cara Barton and Cali Barton. Six great-grandchildren Zachary Drury, Samuel Drury, Natalie Baker, Peyton Watkins, Aiden Watkins and Easton Boyd.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband John Aubrey Mitchell; a brother Carl Franklin Davidson, Jr.

Visitation will be 12 until 2 p.m. Monday, June 19, 2023 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues, Tupelo. Services honoring June’s memory will be 2 p.m. Monday with Rev. Tommy Galloway officiating. Burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mike Mitchell, Danny Mitchell, Heath Garrett, Mark Patton, Kacy Watkins and Stevie Mitchell. Kenny Mitchell, Johnny Opiela, Joey Opiela, E.J. Johnson, Jason Davidson and Randy Foster will serve as honorary pallbearers.
