His celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023, at Bear Creek Community Church with Bros. Randal Foster and Jerry Albright officiating. Nichols Funeral Home Haleyville directing the funeral.

Carrie was born the youngest of four sons on January 17, 1941, to John and Julia Glass of the Pebble Community. A 1959 graduate of Haleyville High School, Carrie met and married Linda Sue Bridges the following year.

After high school he worked at Formed Tubes, but soon took a job with Eldon Fields, who taught him the trade of heating and air conditioning. In the mid 60’s, like people from the area he took his young family north, to Indiana, to work.

The family settled in LaFayette, Indiana as Carrie began working for Korshotts Heating and Air and teaching the craft at the local community college. In 1980 the family moved back to Haleyville when Carrie opened Glass Heating and Air. Later as the business expanded to include industrial sheet metal and pipe, sons Greag and Jon came on board, and the business changed its name to J.C. Glass and Sons. In 1994 his daughter Diane joined the business as office manager. Carrie retired in 2001.

Retirement did not mean sitting down or slowing down. He began to sell and service ice machines to businesses in Northwest Alabama. He also had a member only pool room in downtown Haleyville. He wrote and published four books; collected civil war memorabilia from both the north and south. Carrie also collected lithographs depicting rural life in America.

Carrie is survived by his children: Greag (Cathy) Glass, Haleyville; Diane (Vernon) Lee, Phil Campbell: Jonathan (Rhonda) Glass, Florence. Five grandchildren: Beth (Lance) Jeffries, Fulton MS; Susan (Jason) Morgan, Haleyville; Sha (Fernando Woods) Glass, Caruthersville MO; Casandra Yeakey, Haleyville; Aaron (Danielle) Holder, Cullman; Anthony Harris, Jasper; and eleven great grandchildren. Carrie is also survived by his oldest brother, Coach James (June) Glass, Chattanooga, TN.

Carrie was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Linda Sue Glass, his parents John and Julia Glass; his brothers, Alford Auburn Glass, and John Rule Glass; and his beloved granddaughter Zena Annette Harris.

Carrie’s grandchildren were the light of his life and he theirs. When asked one thing they will remember most of all about their grandfather each answered differently. What follows are their answers. Pool Shark. He loved chitlins. Blue grass music. Singing silly songs. Homemade pineapple ice cream. How to make syrup. His mules. Telling awful jokes. Laughing at his own awful jokes. Patsy Cline. He wrote four books. After he stopped writing he would go to Jack’s every morning and tell stories at the old timers table to keep his friends entertained.

Our family would like to thank Haleyville Health Care for the amazing care they gave Dad during his last few months here on earth. You all truly are angels and heroes.

Julius Carrie Glass was a unique man. His laughter and humor made him a joy to know. He never met a stranger, and his friendships ran deep and long. He is deeply missed by his loving family and all who had the privilege to know him.
