Julia Elizabeth Mathis, 85, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Landmark Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Booneville. She was born July 30, 1938, to Carey and Trana Pike. She was a member of Tuscumbia Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School. She was a Head Start teacher for 35 years. She was a member of The Prentiss County Genealogical and Historical Society for several years. She enjoyed yardselling, genealogy, attending her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s activities, and spending time with family and friends. She was known as a selfless person.
A Celebration of Life will be at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, April 7, 2024, at McMillan Funeral Home with Bro. Darryl Hatfield officiating and Justin Tapp delivering the eulogy. Burial will be in Tuscumbia Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 12:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
She is survived by one daughter, Lana Tapp and her husband Mark; two grandchildren, Shannon Fraiser and her husband Tommy and Justin Tapp and his wife LeShae; four great grandchildren, Tapp, Judd and Mary Mathis Fraiser and Porter Tapp; one sister, Martha Pike Lindsey and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, LQ Mathis; her parents; one brother, Jerry Pike; and one sister, Linda Martin.
Pallbearers are Tapp Thomas Fraiser, Porter Tapp, Judd Fraiser, Jeff Lindsey, Eric Lindsey, Scotty Lindsey, Carey Martin and Keith Cole.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tuscumbia Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 1808 Jacinto Road, Booneville, MS 38829.
