Judy Saylor Collier passed away peacefully at her Arab home December 13, 2023. Judy was born April 17, 1943 to Lemon Harris and Mattie Ann Tyler Saylor in the Ruth community.
Judy was a graduate of Arab High School (Class of 1961). As a lifetime learner, she went on to earn her BA (Bachelor of Arts) degree in Elementary Education from Southern Benedictine College, MA (Master of Arts) in Elementary Education, AA (Associate in Arts) in Principalship and Ed.S. (Education Specialist) in Elementary Education from the University of Alabama Birmingham. She graduated with honors as Magna Cum Laude.
Judy was a devout Christian and proud member of the Arab Church of Christ were she taught the Ladies Bible Class. She took great pleasure working with her flowers and researching genealogy. She was an avid writer and a published children’s book author. She also loved tea parties with her great grandchildren.
She was devoted teacher and administrator for the Arab School System for 28 years. She served as a member of the Arab City School Board from 2019 to present. She loved watching Arab Knights play any and all athletics.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leamon and Mattie Saylor. She is survived by her loving husband of 27 years, Joe B. Collier; daughters, Kelly Dickson Harter, Jennifer Seibold Rice (Robbie), Holli Seibold Helms; grandchildren, Jessica Rice Cobb, Joshua Helms, Julie Rice; great grandchildren, Jayci Cobb, Jaxon Cobb and Grayson Morrow; brother, Luther Saylor (Ann); sisters, Joan Saylor Tyler, Janie Saylor Clifton (Dave), Lesa Saylor and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
Services for Judy will include a visitation at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel on Friday evening December 15, 2023 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. The family will also receive friends and guest on Saturday, December 16 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at the Arab Church of Christ. The funeral service will immediately follow beginning at 1:00 pm. Brother Ken Tyler will officiate. Interment will be in Arab Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers escorting Judy to her final resting place will be: Luther Saylor, Robbie Rice, Joshua Helms, Tyler Clifton, Clay Marcous and Michael Krzewick. Honorary pallbearers are: Dave Clifton, Dr. John Berry, Clint Maze and Russ Williams.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Arab City School System, the Arab Church of Christ or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
