Judy Ann Fassina, 71, a native of Huntsville, passed away Friday. She was preceded in death by her parents Esther and Floyd Moyers, and Robert Ivy. Judy obtained a degree in nursing and was employed by Huntsville Hospital while waiting for her husband to complete his overseas military duty. After her first daughter was born, she ended her employment and dedicated her life to raising their three daughters. Judy’s compassion for abandoned animals, led her and her friend, Flora Reia Salyers, to establish the local Spay Neuter Action Project to help control the cat and dog overpopulation by providing subsidized and low cost services for thousands of pets and feral cats. Her dedication to the welfare of all animals, along with the help of her friend Scarlette Anders, and with the support of PETA, was influential in stopping bear wrestling in Alabama.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 28 at Saint Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church at 1 p.m., with a funeral Mass at 2 p.m.. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery, provided by Berryhill Funeral Home.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Judy’s caregiver, Inisclee Hale, for the incredible love, care and support she provided. Their appreciation also goes to the nurses of Inisclees’s In Home Care and to the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice of Madison for their compassionate, attentive and superlative care.

Memorial donations can be made to the Spay Neuter Action Project, P.O. Box 4450 Huntsville, AL 35815 and/or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
