Judith Patterson Gullett

Judith Patterson Gullett, 86, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2025, at home surrounded by her family.  Judy was a native of Tuscumbia, Alabama.  She graduated from Deshler High School and Florence State College before she moved to Florence shortly after her marriage to William Gullett.  She served for 10 years as an active member then became a lifetime sustaining member of the Muscle Shoals District Service League.  Judy enjoyed many years as an administrative assistant in the athletic department at the University of North Alabama before taking a part-time role in the business office at UNA.  After her retirement from UNA, her hobbies were gardening, reading books, playing tennis and bridge with friends.  She also loved smocking and sewing for her five grandchildren.  More than anything, her favorite retirement activity was spending time with her grandchildren.  She was a member of The First united Methodist Church of Florence for over 60 years and a devoted member of the Ferguson Sunday School Class.  She enjoyed serving on many committees at the church, with her favorite being the work she did on the congregational care committee.

She was preceded in death by her husband William Sanford Gullett, son William Sanford Gullett, Jr. (Karen), infant daughter Virginia Ruth Gullett, parents Robert Weaver Patterson and Ruth Gamble Patterson.

Judy is survived by son Robert Guy Gullett (Kimberly), daughter, Ann Gullett Storie (Ken), sister, Etta Kay Jordan, sister-in-law, Marcia Underwood Gullett, grandchildren, William Bryce Storie, Michael Lawrence Storie, Catherine Virginia Storie, William Sanford Gullett, III, Sarah Bell Gullett, niece Cheryl Williams Swainston, and nephew John Green Williams.

Serving as pallbearers will be John Williams, Gary Gamble, Steve Gamble, John Allen Gamble, Alex Williams, Bryce Storie, Michael Storie, Will Gullett, Richard Swainston, and Albert Trousdale.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the McDowell Hall at First United Methodist Church Florence, Alabama with burial to follow at Greenview Memorial at 1:00 PM.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date upon the completion of the renovation of the church sanctuary. Williams Funeral Home is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to the Florence Education Foundation, First United Methodist Church Florence, Embrace Alabama Kids, and Big Oak Ranch.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the following for their kindness, care and compassion during our journey – Dr Zachary Griffith, Dr Lyman Mitchell, Dr Brett Barlow and all the staff at Clearview Cancer Center, as well as Dr Garima Gupta and Jualease Epps, RN at UAB, the precious staff at Elder Care and Amedisys Hospice, and our Brother in Christ Dr Charlie Lattuada.
