Judith Ann “Judy” Staggs, age 82, of Huntsville, AL, was born February 27, 1941, and passed away Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Hospice Family Care in Huntsville, AL surrounded by family. She spent her childhood in Lawrence County, TN, and graduated from Summertown High School in 1959. She attended Peabody College in Nashville, TN, and graduated from Athens State University in Athens, AL.
Judy spent her adult life in Huntsville, AL. She retired from the U.S. Department of Defense where she worked as a Senior Contract Specialist and Contracting Officer negotiating contracts for major Army programs. After retiring from the Army, she continued to negotiate contracts with the Army for a private firm. Throughout her life, she traveled both internationally and nationally with her friends and family. She was also a member of the Church of Christ. Judy enjoyed attending University of Tennessee football games, spending time with her family and friends, and experiencing the world through travel. She will be remembered by all who knew her as loving, generous, and loyal.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon Ray Staggs, Sr., and Christine Gower Staggs; one brother, Tony Ralph Staggs; and one sister, Jackie Staggs Johns.
She is survived by two brothers, Don Staggs (Ola) of Lawrenceburg, TN, and V. R. “Ray” Staggs, Jr. (Kay) of Eagleville, TN; sister-in-law, Vicki Staggs; nieces, Tonya Staggs (David), Karla Hardy (Keith), Vickie Cox (Jeff), Chasity Staggs, and Charity Staggs (Luis); nephews, Keith Johns (Becky), Ricky Staggs (Tammy), Kevin Staggs (Marcy), and Bubba Staggs (Darian); several great-nieces, great-nephews, and lifelong friends.
Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 07, 2024, at Neal Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at Neal Funeral Home at 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 07, 2024, with Rodney Livingston officiating. Interment will follow at Lawrence County Memorial Gardens in Lawrenceburg, TN.
