Juanita Hughes Funderburk passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at The Meadows in Fulton just shy of her 90th birthday.  Born in Amory on August 15,  1933, she was a daughter to Cletus and Callie Ethel Ford Hughes.  She worked as a CNA for some time, but more importantly, she was a homemaker for her family.  An exceptional cook, and according to them, she was the only one that could make gravy and biscuits.  Her tea cakes would melt in your mouth and her hamburgers were some of the best in the world.  She was deeply faithful to the Lord and enjoyed attending her church, the North Mississippi Worship Center, but she sought out any kind of meeting, revival, or singing—anywhere she could hear the Word of God.  She prayed fiercely and worshipped devotedly.  Oftentimes, she could be found in her flower beds weeding them or out raking leaves. She was the glue that held her family together and cherished her family gatherings before she became sick.

Services honoring her life will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 13, 2023 from the North Mississippi Worship Center with Bro. Dudley and Sister Lucy Nash, and Bro. Marty Funderburk officiating.  Burial will follow in the Haughton Memorial Park.  Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

She is survived by 4 sons, Randy Leech of Amory, Marty Funderburk of Nashville, Ricky Funderburk (Teka) of Wren, and Stevie Funderburk (Ida) of Nashville; two daughters, Kim Payne (Burnie) of Nettleton and Nita Pearson (Jeffrey) of Amory; grandchildren, Nikki Wigginton, Josh Knight, Matt Payne, Justin Payne, Luke Moore, Deric Payne, Courtney Owens, Rusty Moore, Dylan Leech, Austin Moore, Katie Fleming, Caleb Funderburk, J.R. Funderburk, Shawn Funderburk, and Austin Pearson; 27 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Debbie Lantrip; sisters, Iuta Irving and Bonnie Mae Carpenter; and brothers, Russell Hughes, Ronald Hughes, Jack Hughes, Bob Hughes, Donald Hughes, and Arnold Hughes.

Pallbearers will be Josh Knight, Matt Payne, Justin Payne, Deric Payne, Luke Moore, Rusty Moore, Austin Moore, and Dylan Leech.

Visitation will be from 2 until 3:45 p.m. at the church.
