Juanita Evans Matthews, 87, Huntsville, arrived on time to her heavenly Home Tuesday, April 28, 2020. Juanita was born May 6, 1932 to Major Washington and Ollie Dickerson Evans in Bath, South Carolina. She was the baby of twelve children. Juanita grew up and attended school in Greenwood, South Carolina.
Juanita married her husband, the late Billy Matthews of Charleston, South Carolina on April 30, 1955. They were blessed with four children, Billy Chris, Jeffrey Jess, Sheila Anita (Fortier) and Sheryl Jean (Bolton). Their legacy of love continues with sons-in-law, Ed Fortier and Steve Bolton, as well as, grandchildren, Carter Lelve Gentles, Andrew Edmund Fortier and Alayna Hope Michelle Fortier.
Juanita loved being a wife and a mama. She was very intentional in maintaining a tidy home, as well as, serving delicious meals to her family. She invested countless hours in her children’s extracurricular interests. Birthdays and Christmas mornings were always evident of her love and generosity.
Juanita was dedicated to her faith in God through her Savior Jesus Christ. She attended Bible study, sang in the choir and supported the ongoing ministry of Memorial Southern Methodist Church. Juanita enjoyed being creative, whether it be painting ceramics, beadwork, floral arrangements or handmade greeting cards. She also loved to decorate her home’s exterior for every holiday! Juanita loved music- singing, dancing, playing the piano and attending concerts.
She was blessed by her nephew, Kell Patterson and her nieces, Debbie Patterson Warren and Beverly Patterson Stoll with many opportunities to travel across the contiguous United States. Juanita treasured the love and laughter they shared.
To the world, Juanita was a wife/a mother but to her family… she was our world.
