Joyce Wales Mitchell, 88, of Elkmont, Alabama passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2024. She was born March 3, 1936, in Elkmont, Alabama to Luther David Wales and Nellie Mae Wallace Wales.
Ms. Mitchell was a member of First Methodist Church and a retired teacher. She studied at Black Hills State Teachers College in SD, Martin College in Pulaski, TN, Athens State College in Athens, AL and received her Masters from George Peabody now known as Vanderbilt in Nashville, TN.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 63 years, Frank G. Mitchell; brothers, Herbert Wales and Royce Wales; and sisters, Tula Mae Wales and Rachel Pressnell.
She is survived by her son, Harlan (Deborah) Mitchell; daughter, Glenda (Bob) Brown; grandchildren, Beth Reed and David Mitchell, 5 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home, Ardmore, AL at 11AM. Private family burial will follow in Sylone Cemetery, Elkmont, AL
