Joyce Reid Kirkland Qualls, age 90, of Springfield, passed away Friday, July 12, 2024 at her home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at 1pm in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Brother James Shoulders and Brother Frankie Kirby officiating. Burial will follow in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with Tony Keith, Michael Keith, Dennis Morris, Timothy “Bubba” Morris, Joe Porter and Jay Porter serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, July 15, 2024 from 4-7pm and again on Tuesday from 11am until the hour of service at 1pm.
Mrs. Qualls was born May 6, 1934 in Springfield to the late Otis Lee and Ester Eden Reid. She worked as a seamstress and was a member of the Springfield Missionary Baptist Church. She was a member of the Adams Craft Club and she loved dancing and playing cards at the Senior Citizens’ Center.
In addition to her parents Mrs. Qualls is preceded in death by her first husband of 23 years, Neely E. Kirkland and her second husband of 25 years, James Qualls. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Reid, sisters, Bobbie Keith, Beverly Pully and Dorothy Porter, and her grandchild, Gabriel Jones.
Mrs. Qualls is survived by her son and his partner, Tommy Kirkland and Donna Butler, of Fairhope, AL; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Steve Cherry of Springfield; sister, Sammie Morris of Springfield; grandchildren, Fred (Jo) Wix, Meranda (Tony) Lambert, Kelli (Brandon) Douglas, Kimberly (Clifton) Goodwin, and Shawn (Craig) Jones; and 11 great-grandchildren.
