Joyce Lee Giles – Obituary

D.4.10.19 Joyce Giles.jpgJoyce Lee Giles 91, of Decatur passed away Tuesday April 9, 2019 at her residence.  She was born November 27, 1927 in Decatur to Earl and Maxie Speake Lee.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John Harlan Giles and three children, Jeanette Dougherty, John Giles Jr. and Emily Royer.  Mrs. Giles was a graduate of the University of Alabama where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She was a longtime member of 1st United Methodist Church of Decatur, she was active on the Wheeler Basin Library Board, she delivered Meals on Wheels for 30 years, she won the Decatur Country Club mixed doubles tennis tournament.   She is survived by her daughter, Allison Wilder Burnthall (Mike) and her son Webb Giles also 12 grandchildren.  Visitation will be Thursday, April 11, 2019 from 12:30pm until 2:00pm at 1st United Methodist Church in Decatur followed by a 2:00pm funeral service with Reverend Charles Boling and Reverend Dr. Huey Reynolds officiating.  In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials be made to Hospice of the Valley or 1st United Methodist Church of Decatur. Hartselle Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family.
