Joyce Gantt Coleman, a beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on January 23, 2024, at the age of 77. She was born on July 9, 1946, in Jackson, Tennessee to the late Arthur and Dorothy Pickens Gantt. Joyce’s joyful presence touched the lives of many, and her warm and caring nature will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Throughout her life, Joyce had a successful career as a Sales Supervisor at South Central Bell. Her dedication and hard work earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues. But Joyce’s true joy came from her family. She deeply cherished her children and grandchildren, considering them her proudest accomplishments in life.
Joyce had a vibrant personality that radiated positivity and happiness. The word “joy” truly described her perfectly. She always had a smile on her face and brought laughter to any room she entered. It was impossible not to feel uplifted in her presence.
One of the many things that brought joy to Joyce’s life was baking. She was known for creating delicious treats that were made with love. Her family and friends delighted in tasting her mouth-watering creations. Joyce’s home was filled with the tantalizing aroma of chocolate, coconut, and pecans – ingredients she often mentioned would make up the walls of her Heavenly home.
In addition to baking, Joyce had a beautiful singing voice. Whether it was singing hymns at church or lullabies to her grandchildren, music held a special place in her heart. Her melodious voice brought comfort and joy to those around her. Joyce was an active member of Love and Truth church, where she found solace in worshiping alongside fellow believers. Her faith played a central role in guiding her life, teaching her the values of love, compassion, and forgiveness.
Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Michelle Towater (Lee), Allison Denson (Jonathan), and Harold Coleman, Jr. (Dalena); sister, Linda Ash; and grandchildren, Brooke, Hayden (Madelyn), Deven, Jon, Zetta, Rayne, and Xavier.
Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Coleman, Sr.; twin sons, Michael Kevin Coleman and James Arthur Coleman; brothers, Larry Gantt, Jerry Gantt, and Buddy Gantt; and sister, Doris Brockus.
To honor Joyce’s memory and celebrate the beautiful life she lived, a memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 28, 2024, in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until time of the service.
Joyce’s love for almond joys and Snickers was well-known among her loved ones. These treats often brought a smile to her face, and sharing them became a way for her to show affection. In her memory, let us savor the sweetness of these candies while remembering the sweetness of her spirit.
