Funeral services for Mrs. Joyce Catchings Askew, age 81 of Millerville, will be held on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at Millerville Baptist church with Rev. Steve Dyess officiating. Interment will follow in Millerville Community Cemetery.
Mrs. Askew passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at the Clay County Nursing Home. A native of Clay County, and living most of her life in Millerville, she graduated from Bibb Graves High School, had worked at Russell and Higgins manufacturing for several years, and was also the Lunchroom Manager for Bibb Graves High School. She was a hard-working woman, who loved to cook, sew, make clothes for her family, and spend time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by four daughters: Renay Hoffman (Steven), Denise Denney, Elaine Smith (Phillip), Sheila Bolt (Don); one son, Lyndoll Askew; one brother, Wendel Catchings (Nancy), all of Millerville; 14 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph Slaughter Catchings and Edith Densela Morris Catchings, and one brother, Hulon Catchings.
Active Pallbearers will be her Grandsons: Kirk Hoffman, Glenn Hoffman, Jason Denney, Billy Browning, Brian Askew, David Hayes, Karl Bolt, and Raymond Bolt
Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters: Brandy Crocker, Heather Askew, and Dana Browning.
The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland on Monday, August 26, 2019 from 5:30 until 8:00 P.M.
