Jossie Evelyn Sparks passed away peacefully at home at age 91, surrounded by her loved ones on November 1, 2022 in Phoenix, Arizona.
Evelyn was born on March 22, 1931 in Russellville, Alabama. She is survived by her son David Sparks (Beth) and daughter Pam Schiele, her grandchildren and great grandchildren: David J. Sparks (Lauren), Elijah and Declan; Bryan Schiele (Sharilyn), Ashlyn; Michael Sparks (Ryan), Carter Beth and Ellie Brook and sister-in-law Emeline Howard.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents William and Rebecca Howard, her beloved husband of 23 years James (JC) Sparks, her sister Cratus Holland, brothers Roosevelt Howard and Wallace Howard, and son-in-law Dale Schiele.
Evelyn and her husband JC were married May 19, 1950 and moved to the Phoenix metro area in 1960 from Chicago so JC could benefit from the dry desert climate for his arthritis. In 1961 they purchased a home in Phoenix, where she lived until her passing.
Evelyn was a faithful member of the Monte Vista church of Christ for the past 60 years. She enjoyed taking care of her roses and traveling with friends and family during her retirement from Motorola where she worked for 36 years.
Evelyn’s ultimate joy in life was from spending time with her grandsons and great grandchildren.
Although she will be missed in this life, we know she now is at rest in a better place.
