Joseph Wayne West – Obituary

Joseph Wayne West, age 69, of Leighton, died Sunday, July 22, 2012.

Visitation will be held Tuesday 6-9 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Cherokee.

His funeral service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Doug English and James Nevins officiating. There will be a service at West Chapel Church of Christ in Westville, Miss. at 3 p.m. with burial following in Sartor Cemetery, Greenwood Springs, Mississippi.

Wayne was a native of Mississippi and a Church of Christ minister. He served as Chief of the Spring Valley Volunteer Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Edrice West; and grandparents, James C. and Clara Murff West. Wayne was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Peggy Minga West; sons, Jonathan Wayne West and wife, Sonya, Joseph Mark West and wife, Ladonna, Paul Murphy West and wife, Paige; brother, Thomas Leslie West; sisters, Ann Shidler, Marilyn Umphress; grandchildren, Lauren, Megan, Jonathan, Madison, Joshua and Connor; one great-grandchild, Isabella; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Family will serve as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers are members of the Spring Valley Volunteer Fire Department.

The family expresses heartfelt thanks to all the members of the Spring Valley Volunteer Fire Department.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Joseph Wayne West Fund at any Bank Independent.

I, along with many others at the Rockmart Church of Christ, was sad to hear of Wayne’s passing last week. I know that Peggy and her family will miss him.
