Joseph W. Phillips – Obituary

JosephJoseph W. Phillips, 62, of Florence, AL, passed into the gates of Heaven on July 13, 2014. Visitation will begin at 10 AM Wednesday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Florence followed by the service at 11:30 AM. Officiating will be Rev. Chris Brynestadt and Rev. John M. Bussman. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Park.
Joseph was born to Pauline and William Phillips on July 30, 1951, in Cullman, AL. He graduated from Cullman High School and received a degree in biology from St. Bernard and a master’s degree in public health from UAB. Joe married the love of his life, Cassie Curl, on August 28, 1970. In 2009, he retired from TVA as shoreline manager. Joe loved to sing hymns and sang tenor in the church choir at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church where he was a member. In his retirement he enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was loved by his family and will be sorely missed until we all meet again in Heaven.
Preceding Joe in death was his father, William Phillips; uncles, Walter Wolf, Ernst Wolf and Herman Wolf; cousin, Ron Wolf. Surviving are his wife, Cassie Phillips; his children, Amanda Johnston and husband Halbert, Emily Hefley and husband Patrick, Joshua and wife Yolanda; Luke; mother, Pauline Phillips; brothers, John Phillips and Jeff Phillips; and grandchildren, Ariana and Noah Johnston, Emma, Cosmo and Paisley Phillips.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran School, 513 4th Ave. SE, Cullman, AL, 35055, Scope 310 or the Blue Door, both of 4129 Helton Dr., Florence, AL, 35633, or the charity of one’s choice.
