Joseph “Ralph” Hitchcock, Sr., age 91, of Cedar Hill, Tennessee, died Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at the Residence at Alive Hospice in Nashville.
Funeral services will be held at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View at 11:00AM on Thursday, January 18th, with Bobby Clay Riley and Dr. Fred Nordquist conducting. Burial will follow at 1:00PM in Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Nashville with Derek Rozanski, Steve McCurdy, Casey Coble, Sammy Bryant, Buddy Bryant, and William Simmons serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 9:30AM until the hour of service at 11:00AM.
Mr. Hitchcock was born on December 24, 1932, in Ettrick, Virginia, to the late Garland Hitchcock and Sadie Hitchcock Whitt & husband Walter. He held many jobs, but was most proud of working for U.S. Customs which he retired from in 1996. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was a Mason and remains a member of Petersburg’s Blandford Lodge #3 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons and the Scottish Rite Masons of the Valley of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his 2 half-brothers, Steve and Walter Lewis Whitt.
Survivors include his wife, Vickie Hitchcock; son, Joseph Hitchcock, Jr. (Alejandra); daughter, Carol Hitchcock Rozanski (fiancé Casey Coble); grandchildren, Britt McCurdy (Steve), Derek Rozanski, Mary Charlotte Hitchcock, and Annie Hitchcock; and great-grandchildren, Laynie Crabill, Kiah McCurdy, and Wyatt McCurdy.
