Joseph O’Brien Shetler departed this life for his Heavenly home February 11, 2017, surrounded by his loving family, after an extended illness. Joe was born October 29, 1944, in Johnstown, PA. His parents were Clayton and Grace Shetler of Davidsonville, PA.
Joe attended Johnstown Mennonite School where he graduated in 1963. He was employed by Allegheny Airlines, which later became US Air, beginning October 29, 1966 in Philadelphia, PA., where he lived for 15 years until he was transferred to Nashville, TN. He was employed by US Air for 33 years.
Joe resided in Milton, FL where he and his wife, Brenda Richey Shetler had recently relocated from Old Hickory, TN. Joe and Brenda were married in 1983, where he became her loving husband and father to her 3 children. He has been a wonderful husband, father and Poppy to their 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Joe was a member of Victory Baptist Church, Mt. Juliet, TN. In his younger years he enjoyed racing cars on the dirt track in Pennsylvania, which led to his love of Nascar. He was a talented carpenter and enjoyed working in the outdoors.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 11 AM in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors. Visitation will be from 10 AM to service time.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother & father-in-law, Mike and Helen Richey, brother-in-law, Don Mock, niece, Tracy Mock, and nephew Scott Mock.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Brenda Richey Shetler; children, Michelle Flatt (Fredrick), Michael Johnson (Faith), Melanie Adkins; siblings, Dean Shetler (Barbara), Lois Mock, Linda O’Brien; 7 grandchildren, Bryan Flatt (Brooke), Jordan Flatt, Tamara Johnson, Brandon Johnson, Marissa Johnson, Michaela Adkins and PFC Andrew Adkins; great-grandchildren, Julia and Olivia Flatt; several nieces and nephews, and special lifelong friend Aldon Seese of Davidsonville, PA.
