A Memorial Service with Military Honors for Mr. Joseph Nolan, age 93 of Jemsion, formerly of Ashland, will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 3:00 P.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with Rev. Mike Perry officiating. Visitation will begin at 2:00 P.M. until service time at 3:00 P.M.

Mr. Nolan passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at his daughter’s home in Jemison. He was born in Winnfield, Louisiana, was a high school graduate, and was a 3rd Class Petty Officer for the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, he obtained the National Defense Service Ribbon and Korean Service Ribbon (Four Stars). After his three years of service, he worked as a salesman until he retired.

Mr. Nolan is survived by his daughter, Karen Sue Mize of Jemison; his son Doug Nolan (Michelle) of Tennessee; four grandchildren: Starr Gaither Kendrick, Shaunda Mitchell (Ryan), Whitney Jones (Brandon), and Seth Nolan (Felicia); 13 great-grandchildren: Noah Grace Stafford, Rylan Mitchell, Braylon Stafford, Nolan Kendrick, Lincoln Mitchell, Claire Jones, Kyleigh Jones, Nolan Jones, Wells Nolan, Colton Jones, Aubrey Nolan, Morgan Nolan, and Casey Nolan; one sister, Nellie Ray; two brothers: Don Nolan and Arnold Nolan; plus a host of nieces and nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Douglas Eugene Nolan and Zelma Aulos Nolan; his wife, Shelby Jean Nolan; one granddaughter, Sheree Gaither Rich; and two sisters: Dorothy Williams and Oneida Watson.
