Joseph Lamar (Rushing) Jones of Anniston, Alabama passed away at the age of 80 on July 23,2022. Lamar was born on December 11,1941 to Joe and Moie Rushing in Magnolia, Mississippi. He was adopted by Grady and Edith Jones of Corinth, Mississippi at the age of 4. Lamar later moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama where he attended the University of Alabama. He later joined the United States Marine Corp and settled in Holly Springs.Mississippi after his service where he met and married Shirley Lee Williams. The couple had 3 children Doug, Kevin and Leigh Ann. In 1979 the Jones family resettled to Anniston, Alabama where Lamar spent the rest of his life. Mr. Jones was a member of Hillcrest Baptist church, an accomplished horticulturalist, and an avid reader.
There will be a private family memorial service conducted in Meridian, Mississippi.
Lamar leaves behind 3 children; Douglas Adam (Cindy) of Oxford, Alabama; Kevin Lamar (Leigh Anne) of Pell City, Alabama; and Leigh Ann Jones Claypool (Jerry) of Sacramento, California. 8 grandchildren; Blake (Haley), Austin (Ivey), Nathan, Noah, Nicolas, Olivia, Savannah, and Grace. 1 great grandchild Fletcher Adam.
