Joseph Francis Sturbois, 84, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2024. Born in Elwood, Indiana, on August 1, 1940, he was the son of Julia Willkie Sturbois and L. Edward Sturbois. In 1963, Joseph enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving with honor before marrying the love of his life, Janice Hegel, in 1967.
Joseph had a distinguished career in electronics, beginning in 1966 with RCA in Indianapolis, followed by a long tenure with SCI in Huntsville from 1968 to 1984. His career also included time with Phoenix Microsystems before his retirement in 2002 from Verilink as an Electronics Engineer.
Outside of work, Joseph was a passionate hobbyist with a deep love for amateur radio, cars, and a remarkable talent for fixing just about anything. Above all, Joseph was a devoted family man. He cherished his role as a husband, father, and grandfather, always making time to support his family. Whether attending a softball game or coaching his daughters’ teams, he never missed an opportunity to be involved in their lives. His love and commitment to his family were unwavering.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Julia, and his sister, Clara Ellen Brubaker.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Janice Hegel Sturbois; his two daughters, Teresa Sturbois Romano (Tommy) and Julia Sturbois Fountain (David); and his granddaughters, Ashley Fountain, Lauren Fountain, and Claire Ellen Romano.
Joseph’s legacy of love, service, and dedication will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
