Joseph F. Dittoe – Obituary

JosephJoseph F. Dittoe, 74, formerly of Chicago, Ill., passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, of natural causes. Born in Chicago, he was the son of the late Albert J. and Florence L. Copp Dittoe. He was the husband of Margie A. Lewter Dittoe for 47 years.

Joe began his 35-year career as a hoist mechanic with R.R. Donnelley & Sons in Chicago where he worked for 16 years. He retired from the Lancaster Plant in 2002. He was also employed by the Manheim Auto Auction. Joe served in the United States Navy on the USS Shangri-la and the USS Intrepid. He enjoyed attending Navy reunions for those who served on the USS Shangri-la. In his earlier years, he was a competitive handgun marksman and won several trophies and awards.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Reshea Asbel of Lititz, Pa., and Joseph F. Dittoe Jr. of Manheim; one granddaughter, Khalea Ann Marie Kincaid; and three siblings, Larry, husband of Sandy Dittoe, of Merrillville, Ind., Karen, wife of Lloyd Miller, of Hammond, Ind., and John Dittoe of Washington. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Dittoe.

The family will receive guests on Thursday evening, May 23, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hoffer Auditorium at Pleasant View Retirement Community, 544 North Penryn Road, Manheim, Pa. Interment will be on the following day at 1 p.m. at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Pa.
