Jonathan Matthew Patterson, 39, passed away surrounded as always by his parents on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at Sanctuary Hospice House following a lifelong battle with Tuberous Sclerosis and other health issues. Jonathan was born July 17, 1983, to his parents John Craig Patterson and Debra Jean Christopher Patterson. Jon, affectionately called Jon Jon at times, remained a child all his life, and brought cheer to everyone he met. He was a loving soul who proved that although he may have been nonverbal to most, love never needed words. The family knows that Jon’s eternal home is in Heaven and that he has never been a part of this world’s corruption or sin. His heart is pure and always has been. He is one of God’s special children that came and lived with Debbie and Craig for 39 years. God has called him back home and they are sure that he is walking and leaping and praising God and no doubt smiling in awe with his Heavenly Father now!
He had a special bond with his parents who faithfully, lovingly, sacrificially, and unconditionally saw to his every need for the past 39 years. He loved rocking in the recliner or in his Nanae’s lap (even when he got bigger than she was) with his blanket and pillow. He enjoyed and appreciated simple things of life like watching TV, listening to music, waving a piece of paper, playing with his pom poms and especially playing with his Bubba Bear. Eggs, ranch dressing, cheese and hot sweet tea were among his favorite foods and drinks. He loved being outdoors, going for rides, and especially loved going camping at Fulton and Blue Bluff. He made many friends at Nettleton United Methodist Church, Nettleton First Baptist WEE, McDougal Center, Nettleton School and Tupelo Dayhab and had many special caregivers through the years including Charlotte Thompson Byrd, Debbie Grubbs, Mary Blackmon and Lisa Boozer. He will be greatly missed and left many lasting memories for his loved ones to cherish forever.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. Danney R. Estes, Sr. at Nettleton First United Methodist Church on Friday, October 14 at 11 AM. Visitation will be from 9 until service time at the church. He will be laid to rest beside his brother, Christopher Brian Patterson at Lee Memorial Park in Verona. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
Survivors include his parents, Craig and Debbie Patterson; his grandparents, John Robert (Papaw) and Emily (Nanae) Waycaster Patterson of Nettleton; one uncle, Robert Howard Patterson (Rhonda); three nephews, John Gavin Patterson, Ethan Collier Patterson and Anderson Reid Patterson; one niece, Emillie (Emi) Marie Patterson and special cousins, Jessi Patterson Koon, Jayla Patterson, Jamie Rose Patterson and Derrik Boland. He was preceded in death by his brother, Chris Patterson; grandparents, Billy Christopher and Patsy Christopher Langley; his great-grandparents, Claude and Marie Sullivan, John and Mamie Patterson and G.H. and Louise Waycaster.
Pallbearers will be John Gavin Patterson, Ethan Patterson, Reid Patterson and Robert Patterson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Nettleton First United Methodist Church Special Fund in Memory of Jonathan Patterson, 160 Verona Ave., Nettleton, MS 38858.
