Jonathan Andrew “Andy” Wilson, age 45, of Madison, AL passed away on February 10, 2024, surrounded by his family and lifelong friend after a short, hard fought battle with cancer.
He was born to William Woodrow and Ramona Ellen Wilson on April 2, 1978 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He attended Lilbourn Elementary School until January 1989, when the family moved to Huntsville, AL. He then attended Monrovia Elementary, Liberty Middle School, and graduated from Sparkman High School in 1996. Andy played baseball growing up and will always be remembered for the 1992 middle school county championship game played at Joe Davis Stadium where Andy threw a no-hitter to help Liberty Middle School win the game. After graduation, Andy attended Calhoun Community College, but ultimately entered the workforce full-time.
For the past six years, Andy worked for the Solid Waste Disposal Authority leading Huntsville’s Household Hazardous Waste Facility. He worked tirelessly serving the citizens of Huntsville by helping and teaching others through environmental stewardship. Prior to leading the Hazardous Waste Facility, he worked alongside his father at Huntsville’s waste-to-energy facility, Covanta Energy. In his spare time, Andy enjoyed building computers for friends and family.
Andy’s daughter, Hailey Loffler, meant the world to him. On a trip to Disneyworld with the family in 2014, he reluctantly stood in line for several hours just so she could see Anna and Elsa, her favorite characters from the Disney movie “Frozen”.
Anyone who knew Andy knew he loved the Los Angeles Dodgers. Baseball was truly his favorite pastime, and he was an expert on baseball statistics, history, and the game. He gets the love of baseball honestly, as it is also a favorite pastime of his father and brother. Baseball is on the television every Monday night as the entire family gathers for dinner at the Wilson Home for “Monday Night Dinner,” a weekly tradition hosted by Andy’s parents. Andy had a true heart for helping and serving others. He was a behind the scenes guy who did not want any credit for the good things that he did. He helped several financially and was always willing to go where any help was needed.
Andy was preceded in death by his grandparents, William Wilson, Sr. (Bessie) and Robert Henrickson (Reva). He is survived by his parents, William, Jr. and Ramona Wilson; daughter, Hailey Loffler; brother, William Wilson III; sister, Hillary Trawick (Keith); and nephews, Cole and Carter.
Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home chapel with Pastor Dusty McLemore officiating. Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens.
