Johnny Warren Garner age 70, passed away Wednesday evening, December 13, 2023, at his home.
He was born April 13, 1953, in Henderson and grew up south of Henderson, the son of the late Warren G. and Bessie Faye Archer Garner. He attended Old Friendship School and East Chester Elementary and graduated from Chester County High School in 1971. He worked at Kolpak at Bethel Springs, worked in construction with his father in-law, William Mitchell and was elected Chester County Court Clerk in 1986, and served seven full terms. After serving as county clerk, he was elected as a County Commissioner and was currently serving.
He farmed all his adult life and he and his father were renown for raising and selling watermelons. He also raised soybeans and hogs.
He served on the Republican Party Executive Committee for many years.
He enjoyed deer hunting and was an avid duck hunter and enjoyed fishing.
He was a member of the Henderson Church of Christ.
Mr. Garner is survived by his wife, Carolyn Mitchell Garner of Finger; a son, Blake Garner and wife Amber of Finger; a daughter, Dina Garner McCorkle and husband Alan of Finger and two grandchildren, Callan McCorkle and Amelia Guthrie.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, December 16th at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue Chapel with T.J. Kirk and Larry McKenzie officiating. Burial will follow at Refuge Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday. There will be Masonic Rites at 8:00 PM Friday evening in the chapel with John Webb officiating.
