Mr. Johnny Ray Duren, age 81, of Hamilton, MS and formerly of Gordo, passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at Generations of Vernon.
Mr. Duren was born November 20, 1941, in Tarrant City, AL, to the late Robert Virgil Duren, Jr. and Porter Duren, and was a carpenter. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Don Duren and Marvin Duren; his brother-in-law, Joe Crowe; his sister-in-law, Sarah Duren; his nephew, David Crowe; and his great-nephew, Joseph Crowe.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 14, at 11:00 AM, in the chapel of Chandler Funeral Home, with Todd Burkhalter officiating. Burial will follow at Asbury Cemetery. Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 prior to the service.
Active pallbearers will be Ray Duren, Guy Duren, Keith Duren, Miecree Cannon, Robby Duren, Carla Manasco, and Darryl Elmore. Honorary pallbearers will be Kent Naper, Neal Champion, Joe Brown, and the gospel group he sang with, Faithful Friends Chris Champion, Ken Cook, and Randy Pennington.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Napper Duren; two daughters, Tani (Jeff) Gilliam and Cindy (Charles) Woodring; one son, Frank (Deanna) Duren; three step-sons, Chris (Kim) Mitchell, Craig (Wanda) Mitchell, and Jason (Marsha) Mitchell; two grandchildren, Amanda Gilliam and Presley Duren; four step-grandchildren, Austin Mitchell, Ashley Mitchell, Blake (Kristen) Mitchell, and Madison Grace Mitchell; one step-great-grandchild, Emersyn Mitchell; two sisters, Martha Crowe and Lynn (Dale) Stafford; two brothers, Ralph Duren amd Bobby (Joan) Duren; two sisters-in-law, Blanche Duren and Patsy Duren; and one brother-in-law, Kent (Nancy) Napper.
