Johnny David Hill, Sr. passed away on January 23, 2018, in his adopted home of Mobile, Alabama. David was born and raised in Lincoln County, Tennessee, where he lived most of his life. He attended school at Bellview and graduated from Blanche High School in 1962. Circumstances prohibited him from attending college, but he worked hard to ensure that his children had the opportunities he did not.

David was a farmer and later a long-haul truck driver. He could build or fix anything he set his mind to. He loved rebuilding and operating heavy equipment and renovating houses. Projects too numerous to list will serve as a lasting testament to his talents. David cherished his memories of accompanying his son to the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico in 1979, when he kept the decommissioned school bus in which the group was traveling running to make the cross-country trip. He was happy to return to the Buffalo Bill Scout Camp in Wyoming with his grandson, Adam, in 2013, where once again he was called upon to repair the vehicle in which the group was traveling. David was also instrumental in assisting Adam in completing his Eagle Scout project

David is survived by his wife, Shirley, his children, Johnny (Faye) Hill and Angela (Bart) Butler, step-son, Rendell (Julie) Drummond, grandchildren, Quinn Hill, Adam Butler, Elliot Hill and his namesake, David Carter Hill, and step-grandchildren Maggie Drummond and Colton Drummond. David is also survived by his brother, Wayne (Agnes) Hill, sister, Joyce (Joe) Brown, and numerous nieces and nephews. He leaves behind his beloved schnauzer, Luke. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Hazel Hill, and sister, Kathy Hill.

Services will be held at Higgins Funeral Home on Saturday, January 27, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. with James Strope officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be on Saturday, January, 27, 2018, from noon until the time of service. His cousins, Mack Hill, Stan Hill, Tim Hill, Don Gustin, Jimmy Kay and Jimmy Wolaver will serve as pall bearers, and his friend from the road of many years, Henry Whitaker, will serve as honorary pall bearer. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boy Scout Troop 357, c/o First National Bank, or the Fayetteville-Lincoln County Animal Shelter.
