Mr. Johnnie Lewis Whitman, 74, passed away Sunday May 29, 2016 at a Sewanee, Tennessee Hospital. He was born in Beersheba Springs, Tennessee on August 18, 1941 to Lecil and Sara Jane Anderson Whitman who preceded him in death along with his brother, Roscoe Whitman; grandson, Bryan Matthew Whitman.
He was a member of the Cumberland Baptist Church.
He is survived by his sons, Johnnie Bryan “Hoss” (Lisa) Whitman, Vernon “Bud” (Shelia) Whitman and Marlon “Sam” (Karen) Whitman; daughter, Phoebe (Vic) McGee. Brothers, Jimmy and Danny (Helen) Whitman; sisters, Almeda (Homer) Fults, Edith Jane Fults and Gloria Jean (Rueben) Fults; grandchildren, Adam, Brandon, Justin and Dillion (Crystal) Whitman, Sasha (John John) Orange, Lewis, Kayla (Cody) and Landon (Chontae) McGee, April (William) Roller and Ashley (Lee) Myers; 21 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Minister Alton Scruggs officiating with burial to follow in the Altamont Cemetery. Visitation: 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM Tuesday and 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM Wednesday at Layne Funeral Home, Altamont, Tennessee. www.laynefuneralhome.com
