Johnnie Houston James – Obituary

Johnnie Houston James, 86, of the Burnout Community, Vina, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, May 21, 2018 at home surrounded by his family. He was born August 31, 1931. He was a member of Burnout Missionary Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed spending time with his family, harvesting a garden and attending and watching Alabama football games.

Services will be Wednesday, May 23, at 2 p.m. with visitation from 12-2 p.m. at Burnout Missionary Baptist Church with Brother Danny Stanford officiating. Burial will be in Burnout Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL will be in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his two sons, Jerry James (Lynette) and Terry James (Cyndi); eight grandchildren, Heather Schwartz (Meyer), Neesha Pierce (Josh), Amy Bolding (Brad), Todd James (Kendra), Emily Hagood (Jon), Katie James, Sara Gillentine (Joe) and Anna Barksdale (Ryan); 16 great-grandchildren, Kade, Kyser, Madelyn, Kylee, Coby, Brady, Khloe, Zoe, Bree, Noah, Harper, Ruth, Rylan, Reed, Isla and Vivian and two sisters, Martha Oliver and Barbara Collum (Forby).

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna James, parents, Johnnie Simon and Claudie James, two sisters, Christine Townsend (Everett) and Marv Coats (Hubert) and great-grandson, Drake Scott.

Pallbearers will be Todd James, Josh Pierce, Jon Hagood, Joe Gillentine, Ryan Barksdale, Ronald Coats, Richard Townsend and Tommy Townsend.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Crandall, Hospice of North Alabama and caregivers, Shannon Howington and Dena Fretwell.
