Johnnie Elizabeth Braswell, age 82 of Winchester, passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at her residence. A native of Franklin County, she was born in Sherwood on June 8, 1941, to the late John Kelly and Grace Elizabeth (Stewart) Bosarge. Before her retirement, Johnnie had worked as a cook and several other positions at the Franklin County Senior Citizens Center. She also had owned and operated the Elbo Seafood Restaurant in Winchester. She was a member of the Franklin County Art Guild and the Franklin County Democratic Party Women’s Group. When she was able, she attended Trinity Episcopal Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed volunteering at the Franklin County Senior Citizens Center, crocheting, flower gardening, painting, and cooking and canning. Johnnie also enjoyed dancing and would go on Friday nights when she could. She will be remembered for her loving and compassionate nature as she put her whole heart into everything she did. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Braswell; daughter, Holly Star Braswell; son-in-law, Chris Moreland; and brother, Billy Kelly. Johnnie is survived by her children, Alberta (Robert) Rogers, Richard Slack, Lee Ann (Gary) Miller, John (Cathy) Slack, and Ginger Moreland; grandchildren, Misty, Ashley, Haley, Michael, Jessica, Brian, Stacey, Kevin, Shaun, Phillip, Abigail, Christopher, and Rebecca; seventeen great-grandchildren; siblings, Barbara Finney, and Virginia Sawyer; sister-in-law, Zora Kelly; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5-8pm on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, July 16, 2023, in the Moore-Cortner Chapel.
