John William Sudduth

John William Sudduth, 72 of Double Springs, entered into rest on March 19, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Sudduth was born on October 30, 1943. John was a member of Double Springs First Baptist Church for 44 years, where he was a Deacon and a Sunday School teacher. He was a 1961 graduate of Addison High School. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Auburn University and a Master’s degree from Alabama A&M in 1972. John was an Ag teacher for 5 years at Spring Garden High School and an Ag teacher for Winston County High School for 29 years. He was a member of the following organizations: Northwest Alabama Livestock Auction Board of Directors, Traders and Farmers Bank Advisory Board, Winston County Farmers Federation Board, Winston County Natural Resources Council, Winston County Republican Party Vice-Chairman, State Alabama Treasure Forest Committee, Grass Roots Advisory Council through the Winston County Cooperative Extension Office, Winston County Equalization Board, Winston County Soil and Water Conservation District Board, and Winston County High School FFA Advisory Committee. During his life time, John received numerous honors and awards including WCHS Honorary Chapter FFA Degree, Alabama FFA Honorary State Farmer, Double Springs Panorama Study Club Outstanding Service Award, W. Kelly Mosley Environmental Award, Ronald Reagan Award from Winston County Republicans, and Designated Treasure Forest Farm. He enjoyed raising cattle, timber, and spending time with family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 21, 2016 from 6-9pm at Double Springs First Baptist Church, where services will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at 2pm. He will lie in state from 1-2pm. Brother Kenny Sudduth, Dr. Lance Hogan, Brother James Hood, and Brother Danny Page will officiate. Burial will follow in Double Springs Memorial Cemetery.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Mary Lansford Sudduth; son, John (Amy) Sudduth Jr.; daughters, Sanda (Stan) Posey, Carla (Brett) McEwen; brothers in law, Ray Edwards, and Tom Jenkins. He was “Granddaddy” to 7 grandchildren, Matthew May, Will May, Anna Posey, Jonathan Sudduth, David Sudduth, Daniel Sudduth, and Laurel McEwen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Johnie and Arie Walker Sudduth of Addison; sisters, Pernie Jenkins, Fay Edwards, Willene Taylor and her husband Kenneth, Winell Cole and her husband Bob.
The family would like to thank special friends, Lennith Hill, Danny King, Glenn Boone, Winston County Home Health – Kathy and Karen, Northwest Alabama Hospice – Jessica, Cassie, Jennifer, and Cheryl; and Dr. Stacy Horsley, Marcia, Luann, and staff.
