John Wayne Tubbs, age 72 of Oakman, passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at Veterans Hospital in Birmingham.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. at Collins-Burke Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be Monday, January 25, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Tubbs Church of Christ, with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

John was born in Oakman, AL in 1948, he lost his mom at the young age of 11 in 1959. He was the 14th child of 16 children.  He moved to Chicago at the age of 18 after attending trade school in Walker County.  He was a Military Police in the U.S. Army stationed in Fort Hood Texas and Germany.

John was retired from Niles School District 219, Skokie, IL.  After retirement he moved back to Oakman near his childhood home.  He developed a hobby of collecting antique Farmall tractors and enjoyed various farm animals.  He was a lifelong Alabama Roll Tide football fan.  He passed on that love to his children and grandchildren making this year’s championship even more special.

Mr. Tubbs was preceded in death by his 13 Siblings-J.C. Tubbs, Samual Lee Tubbs, Clinton L. Tubbs, Edward C. Tubbs, Curtis Tubbs, Willodean Tubbs Aronson, Danulee Tubbs, Carolyn Tubbs Flatt, Rufus Delano Tubbs, Cordell Tubbs, Joyce Tubbs, Deborah Tubbs Woodley and Louise Tubbs.

He is survived by his Daughters-Melissa Jeffers (John) of Ingleside, IL and Christine Asbrock (Chris) of Antioch, IL; Son-John Tubbs, Jr. of Oakman; Sister-Reba McCraw (David) of Bessemer; Brother-Mike Tubbs of Oakman; Grandchildren-Dane and Logan Murray.
