John Wayne Groves, age 72 of Cottontown passed away Monday, May 27, 2024 at Skyline Medical Center. He was born November 3, 1951 in Franklin, KY to John Harrold & Wylo Dene Harrison Groves . He worked as a machinist for Nashville Wire and then retired in 2008 from J’Dak. In the 1970’s, he worked as a machinist for Richard Petty. He enjoyed farming most of his life and was a member of Cherry Mound Masonic Lodge #227. and Mount Pleasant General Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren more than anything else in the world. He is preceded in death by his father; wife, Nancy Carol Groves. He is survived by his son, Jamie Groves, Cottontown, TN; mother, Wylo Dene Groves, Portland, TN; sister, Martha (Steve) Warren, Clemmons, NC; 4 grandchildren, Kyle, Alex, Eros and Liam. Funeral service is scheduled for Friday, May 31, 2024 at 2pm in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in White House with Pastor Gary Sullivan officiating. Interment will follow in Cross Plains Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Visitation is planned for Friday, May 31, 2024 10am until the hour of the service at the funeral home. A Masonic service is planned for Friday at 1pm in the chapel prior to the funeral service.
