John Wargo Jr. – Obituary

JohnMr. John Wargo Jr., 89, a native of Garfield, New Jersey and a resident of Florence, passed away on June 27, 2014, at his home after an extended illness. He was a veteran of World War II, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, American Chemical Society, Life-Wise, Friends of the Library, and an alumni of Rose Hulman Institute in Terre Haute, Indiana. He served as a past president of St. Vincent DePaul’s and he retired from Diamond Shamrock Corporation. He was also a master gardener. 

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 2, from 6-9 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 3, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Roy Runkle officiating. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Paraska Varga, first wife, Mary Lou Wargo, and sister, Mary Mazur. 

He is survived by his wife, Sandy Robertson Wargo; sons, Jay Wargo and Richard Wargo (Lisa); daughter, Kathleen Stanfield ( Clyde); stepdaughters, Debbi Nerstad (Ricky), Susan Pride (Goodloe), Kim Oliver (Phillip), and Mary Gean (Michael); grandchildren, Drew Stanfield, Hunter Stanfield, Lindsay Wargo, and Ryan Wargo; stepgrandchildren, Rondi Aycock (Adam), Joey Nerstad (Jenna), Goodloe Pride IV, Bailey Pride, and Christopher and Candice Forsythe; and four stepgreat-grandchildren. 

Pallbearers will be Ryan Wargo, Steve Daniel, Goodloe Pride, Hunter Stanfield, Drew Stanfield, and Ricky Nerstad. Tom McHugh and Roy Long will serve as honorary pallbearers. 

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Gentiva Hospice, Dr. Lyman Mitchell, and special caregiver, Sue Hodges. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church building fund, the St. Vincent DePaul Society, or a
