John Thomas Harper – Obituary

Mr. John Thomas Harper, age 81, of the Clay Hill Community of Marshall County, died Friday, January 2, 2015 in Nashville, Tennessee. Mr. Harper was born in Marshall County and was a son of the late Thomas Morgan and Mary Jane Thomas Harper. He was a graduate of Forrest School Class of 1951. After school, he served his Country in the United States Army Signal Corp. during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Harper retired from Heil-Quaker Corp. of Lewisburg after 45 years of service and was also a lifelong farmer. He was a member of Hickory Heights Church of Christ in Lewisburg. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a grandson, Henry Thomas Lamb.

Mr. Harper is survived by his wife of 62 ½ years, Sybil Marie Darnell Harper, Clay Hill Comm.; daughter, Sharon Marie Harper Lamb, Clay Hill Comm.; granddaughter, Scarlett Marie Lamb (Tommy) Garner, Chapel Hill, TN; great granddaughter, Saylor Marie Garner, Chapel Hill, TN; step grandchildren; great grand dog, Belle; and family friend, Jimmy Collins.

Family members will receive friends on Sunday, January 4, 2015 from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 5, 2015 from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Jim Mickells and Tony Lancaster officiating. Burial will follow in Hopper Cemetery in Marshall County.

Stan Edwards, Seth Warf, Brad Douglas, Randy Gentry, Richard Hopkins, Joey Fleming, Ray Ledbetter and Steve Lancaster will serve as active pallbearers. Forrest School Class of 1951 and Harold Collins, J. W. Nickens, Lee Darnell, Dot Edwards will serve as honorary pallbearers
